Peter Jenkins Memorial 2023

After a break of three years – two as a result of COVID and last year whilst we were rebuilding the schedule the Peter Jenkins Memorial meeting was held at Maldon Golf Club. And as it was in 2019 we had brilliant weather providing lots of run for the 24 golfers who competed for the trophy and team honours. As in earlier years we took advantage of the multi tee start and our Captain Andy, a Maldon member, dispatched members to the 1st, 3rd and 7th tees so that we all arrived back at the clubhouse at the same time.

Scoring was on the one hand spectacular and the other disappointing but the player who finished last – JR with 19 points – won nearest the pin and came in on the winning team! Not only that as handicaps were being applied he also got back 2 shots for The Westerham so it wasn’t that bad a day!

We also saw three guests joining us – former GOAT Terry Paris and other friends of Peter’s who are recorded in the photograph below with Peter’s widow Jo who had come along to present the prizes.

Winner on the day was Captain Andy West who used his knowledge of the local conditions to record a whopping 42 points (and a substantial cut) beating our unlucky weather man Malcolm by 1 shot. Unfortunately Gil was unable to complete his round and we send him our good wishes for a speedy recovery.
